Traditional uses

Sold as horny goat weed. Traditional language says it warms kidney yang and expels wind-damp, and it has a reputation for sexual function that shop labels exaggerate. Erectile difficulty has many causes, including heart disease, diabetes, and medicines. This is a name and a category, not a dose and not a treatment.

Cautions

Not for self-dosing. Not a treatment for ED. See a clinician if erections changed suddenly, or with chest pain, new medicines, or diabetes. Traditionally a poor match for yin deficiency with heat: nights, dryness, restlessness. Can affect blood pressure and interact with drugs. Not for pregnancy.
