Where it is

Upper back, about two finger-widths lateral to the spine, level with the lower border of the first thoracic vertebra — just below the big vertebra at the base of the neck.

Nearby: Lung apex under the ribs. This is also called the influential point of bone. Do not dig between ribs.

Traditionally said to

Influential point of bone, and a meeting with the Small Intestine channel in many charts. Taught for upper-back ache and for bone and joint patterns in classical language.

What people look up

Acupressure

Broad finger pressure on the muscle beside the spine, 30–45 seconds. No probing between vertebrae.

When not to press: Skip if breathing hurts or the neck was just injured.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Oblique toward the spine, often 0.5–0.8 cun. Perpendicular deep needling risks the lung.

Angle

Oblique, medial, toward the spine — standard back-shu caution.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
