Where it is

In the hollow midway between the outer ankle bone and the Achilles tendon.

Nearby: Achilles tendon and the outer ankle. The sural nerve can zing if you press too hard.

Traditionally said to

Jing-river and fire point of the Bladder. Taught for neck and back pain along the channel, and traditionally avoided in pregnancy along with other strongly moving points.

What people look up

Acupressure

Thumb in the hollow, 30–45 seconds, if you are not pregnant.

When not to press: Do not use in pregnancy. Skip an injured ankle.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Common textbook range: about 0.5–1 cun perpendicular. Pregnancy caution is standard in teaching manuals.

Angle

Perpendicular, in the hollow anterior to the Achilles.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
