Where it is

On the outer leg, in the hollow just below and in front of the head of the fibula. Feel the bony knob below the outer knee, then drop into the soft spot in front of it.

Nearby: The common fibular nerve wraps the fibular head. If the foot tingles or drops its sensation, you are on the nerve. Move forward into the muscle hollow.

Traditionally said to

He-sea and earth point of the Gallbladder, and the influential point of the sinews. Taught for lateral body pain, rib-side tightness, and stiff tendons.

What people look up

Acupressure

Thumb in the hollow in front of the fibular head, 45–90 seconds. Off the nerve.

When not to press: Stop if the foot tingles or you cannot find a soft hollow and only find bone or nerve.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Common textbook range: about 1–1.5 cun perpendicular.

Angle

Perpendicular, anterior and inferior to the fibular head.

Electroacupuncture

Some pain studies have used low-frequency stimulation on this point, often near 2 Hz or a dense-disperse pattern such as 2/100 Hz, at a gentle muscle twitch. Protocols disagree, and the numbers are not a setting to reproduce. No milliamp dose is listed.
