Where it is

In the middle of the elbow crease, just to the thumb side of the biceps tendon.

Nearby: The brachial artery is in this crease. You can feel a pulse. Do not press the pulse out.

Traditionally said to

He-sea and water point of the Pericardium. Classical texts use it for heat in the blood and for a restless stomach. Also a local elbow point.

What people look up

Acupressure

Find the tendon, move just to its thumb side, and use mild pressure for 20–40 seconds, off the pulse.

When not to press: If you only feel artery, you are in the wrong spot. Stop.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Common textbook range: about 0.5–1 cun. The brachial artery is the caution.

Angle

Perpendicular, on the ulnar side of the artery — licensed practice only.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
