Where it is

On the side of the chest, in the midaxillary line, in the space of the 6th rib — about where a bra band or a shirt side-seam crosses.

Nearby: Ribs and the lung. This is the great luo of the Spleen in classical texts. Do not press between ribs.

Traditionally said to

Great luo of the Spleen. Traditionally said to govern the blood of the luo vessels and to ease a generalized body ache. The rib location matters more than the symbolism for safety.

What people look up

Acupressure

Flat fingers on the side muscle, not wedged under a rib, 20–30 seconds.

When not to press: Do not press if breathing hurts, the ribs are bruised, or you are short of breath.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Shallow oblique only. Many charts say about 0.3–0.5 cun. Pneumothorax is the risk. Confirm in a manual; do not treat a number as permission.

Angle

Oblique or transverse along the rib space, never perpendicular through the intercostal space.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
