Where it is
On the midline of the nape, in the hollow directly under the external occipital protuberance, where the skull meets the neck.
Nearby: The brainstem and spinal cord are deep to this hollow. This point is included so the danger is explicit.
Traditionally said to
Classical point for wind and for loss of voice. It is an advanced point in modern teaching. No self-acupressure is recommended.
What people look up
Acupressure
Do not press this point. Use GB20 to the side, mildly, if you want the neighboring self-care idea.
When not to press: Dizziness, visual change, or neck injury: stop and get care.
About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.
Licensed practice only
Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture
Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.
Depth
Many charts list about 0.5–1 cun perpendicular, slightly downward. This atlas does not offer that as a figure to copy. The medulla is deep to the point. Experienced clinicians only.
Angle
Not specified for copying. Standard warning: do not angle upward.
Electroacupuncture
Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
