Traditional uses

Name means “guard against wind.” Less harsh than Ma Huang. Texts use it for wandering aches, a mild chill, and some skin-wind patterns. It is a supporting herb more often than a star.

Common pairings

  • Bai Zhi 白芷

Two surface herbs: Fang Feng for the body, Bai Zhi when the face and forehead are the focus.

  • Ge Gen 葛根

A milder wind pair: Ge Gen for the stiff nape, Fang Feng for a wandering surface ache.

Cautions

Not for self-dosing. Warm and drying if used a long time in a person who is already dry.
