Where it is

On the shoulder, in the front hollow just below the outer tip of the shoulder bone. It shows more clearly when the arm is lifted out to the side.

Nearby: Shoulder joint. Press the muscle around the joint, not into the joint space.

Traditionally said to

A standard local point for shoulder pain and limited reach. Traditionally also said to move channel qi in the arm.

What people look up

Acupressure

Let the arm hang, then press the front hollow for 45–90 seconds. Mild is enough.

When not to press: After a dislocation, fracture, or hot swollen shoulder, do not press. Get care.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Common textbook range: about 0.8–1.5 cun, into the deltoid toward the joint. Depth depends on build.

Angle

Perpendicular or oblique toward the elbow when the arm is abducted, in clinic positioning.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
