Where it is

At the outer end of the elbow crease. Bend the arm: it is midway between the biceps tendon and the bony point of the elbow, in the hollow.

Nearby: The lateral epicondyle is the outer bony landmark. Stay in the hollow just in front of it.

Traditionally said to

He-sea and earth point of Large Intestine. A very common point in teaching for clearing heat, skin patterns, and elbow pain. Not a treatment for fever or rash by itself.

What people look up

Acupressure

With the elbow bent, press the hollow for 45–90 seconds.

When not to press: Skip a hot, swollen joint. That needs clinical care.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Common textbook range: about 1–1.5 cun perpendicular.

Angle

Perpendicular, toward the hollow.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
