Where it is

In the notch at the top of the breastbone, at the base of the throat.

Nearby: The trachea is immediately deep. The thyroid and great vessels are neighbors. This point is in the atlas so you can recognize it, not so you can press it.

Traditionally said to

Classical point for throat plum-pit sensation and cough. The airway is the whole story for safety. No self-acupressure recipe is offered.

What people look up

Acupressure

Do not press this point. Rest a hand on the upper chest instead, or use LU7 or Ren17 if you want a gentler related idea.

When not to press: Trouble breathing, a choking sensation that is new, or a lump in the neck: medical care.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Not stated here on purpose. Classic technique is a specialized turn behind the sternum. The trachea lies deep to the notch. Copying a depth from memory is unsafe.

Angle

Specialized clinic technique only. No angle is given for copying.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
