Where it is

On the back of the shoulder, about one thumb-width above the back crease of the armpit, when the arm hangs.

Nearby: Posterior shoulder muscles. The chest cavity is forward and deep if a needle is aimed the wrong way.

Traditionally said to

Local point for pain at the back of the shoulder and the shoulder blade.

What people look up

Acupressure

Arm hanging, press the muscle for 45–60 seconds. Not into the armpit.

When not to press: Skip if the shoulder is hot and swollen or you cannot lift the arm after an injury.

About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.

Licensed practice only

Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture

Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.

Depth

Often listed around 1–1.5 cun into the muscle. Do not aim forward into the chest. Confirm in a manual.

Angle

Perpendicular, into the posterior deltoid / teres region.

Electroacupuncture

Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
