Where it is
On the shoulder, in the back hollow below the outer shoulder bone, behind LI15. Easier to find with the arm lifted slightly.
Nearby: Posterior shoulder joint. Muscle, not the joint cavity.
Traditionally said to
Local partner to LI15 for shoulder pain, especially when reaching back or out to the side is stiff.
What people look up
Acupressure
Press the back hollow for 45–90 seconds with the arm supported.
When not to press: Fresh injury, numbness down the arm, or a shoulder that will not move needs an exam.
About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.
Licensed practice only
Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture
Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.
Depth
Common textbook range: about 0.7–1.2 cun toward the joint, into muscle.
Angle
Perpendicular or oblique inferiorly, into the deltoid.
Electroacupuncture
Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
