Traditional uses

Fresh ginger, not dried. Texts use it to release a mild surface, warm the stomach, and stop vomiting in a cold pattern. Dried ginger (Gan Jiang) is hotter and is a different entry you can add later.

Common pairings

  • Da Zao 大枣

Ginger and jujube harmonize a formula and the middle. They show up together so a dispersing herb is less harsh.

  • Ban Xia 半夏

The nausea pair: Ban Xia transforms phlegm, ginger warms and also reduces Ban Xia’s harshness in classical preparation notes.

Cautions

Food use is ordinary. Medicinal amounts are still not for self-dosing. Care with reflux that is already hot, and with blood-thinning drugs if intake is large.
