Where it is
In the fleshy thenar mound of the palm, about halfway along the first metacarpal, where the skin changes color.
Nearby: Thenar muscle. Stay in the belly of the muscle.
Traditionally said to
Ying-spring and fire point of the Lung. Classically used when a sore throat is framed as lung heat. It does not treat infection by itself.
What people look up
Acupressure
Press the thenar muscle for 30–45 seconds. It can feel strong; ease off if it is sharp.
When not to press: Skip on a cut, burn, or arthritic flare in the thumb joint.
About 30–90 seconds is the usual window, unless the step above is shorter. Stop if pain, dizziness, or anything unusual shows up.
Licensed practice only
Needle depth, angle, electroacupuncture
Textbook language for students. Not instructions. A cun is a body-inch on that person, not a ruler inch. Do not needle yourself.
Depth
Common textbook range: about 0.5–1 cun perpendicular.
Angle
Perpendicular, into the thenar muscle.
Electroacupuncture
Introductory charts rarely assign a standard electroacupuncture setting here. Clinics that use current choose frequency and intensity for that person. No milliamp figure is given, because copying one would be misleading.
